About the Author
Amanda Lindhout is a Canadian humanitarian, public speaker, and author whose extraordinary life experiences have inspired readers worldwide. Born in 1981 in Red Deer, Alberta, she grew up in a modest family and developed a passion for travel and journalism from a young age, fueled by her love of National Geographic magazines. At 24, she embarked on a solo journey across the Middle East and Africa, but her adventure took a harrowing turn in 2008 when she was kidnapped and held hostage for 460 days in Somalia. Miraculously surviving the ordeal, Lindhout channeled her resilience into advocacy, co-founding the Global Enrichment Foundation to support education for women in conflict zones. Her debut memoir, A House in the Sky, co-authored with Sara Corbett, chronicles her journey with unflinching honesty, blending vivid storytelling with profound reflections on survival, forgiveness, and the human spirit.
