Ferdowsi, born Abu'l-Qasem Ferdowsi Tusi in the late 10th century near Tus in present-day Iran, stands as one of the greatest poets in Persian literature, renowned for his monumental epic that preserved the cultural heritage of ancient Persia. Composing over a thousand years ago, he dedicated much of his life to the Shahnameh, a vast narrative poem chronicling the mythical and historical kings of Iran from creation to the Islamic conquest.
