Hasui Kawase (1883-1957) was a pioneering Japanese printmaker and one of the most celebrated artists of the shin-hanga movement, renowned for his evocative woodblock prints that captured the serene beauty of Japan's landscapes and urban scenes. Born in Tokyo, Kawase studied under masters like Kiyoshi Kobayashi and Igakusai Yamamoto, blending traditional ukiyo-e techniques with Western influences to create luminous depictions of rain-swept streets, misty mountains, and tranquil gardens.
