About the Author

Helge Ingstad (1899-1984) was a pioneering Norwegian explorer, archaeologist, and author whose adventurous spirit led him to uncover the mysteries of the ancient Norse world. Trained as a lawyer, Ingstad abandoned a conventional career to embark on daring expeditions across the Canadian Arctic, where he lived among the Inuit and documented their vanishing way of life. His most celebrated achievement came in Greenland, where he and his wife Anne Stine unearthed definitive evidence of Viking settlements, reshaping our understanding of medieval exploration. Through his evocative writings, Ingstad blended rigorous scholarship with vivid storytelling, bringing to life the sagas of forgotten peoples and the harsh beauty of polar landscapes.
