Hubert Klumpner

About the Author

Hubert Klumpner is a visionary architect and urbanist whose work bridges the gap between innovative design and social equity. With a career spanning academia, practice, and advocacy, he has championed sustainable urban development that prioritizes human dignity in the face of rapid globalization and environmental challenges. As co-founder of the Strelka Institute in Moscow and a professor at ETH Zurich, Klumpner explores how architecture can foster inclusive communities, drawing from his experiences in informal settlements and post-industrial landscapes. His influential book, Beyond Shelter: Architecture and Human Dignity, delves into the ethical imperatives of design, arguing for spaces that empower rather than exclude. Through lectures, exhibitions, and collaborative projects worldwide, Klumpner continues to inspire a more humane built environment, blending rigorous research with practical optimism.
