J. W. Schultz
About the Author
J. W. Schultz, born in 1853 in Pennsylvania, was an American author and explorer whose life intertwined deeply with the Native American cultures of the American West. At the age of 17, he ventured to Montana Territory, where he immersed himself in the world of the Blackfeet tribe, eventually marrying a Blackfeet woman named Natahki and adopting the name Apikuni. Living among them for decades, Schultz gained intimate knowledge of their traditions, hunting practices, and daily life, which profoundly shaped his writing. His works offer vivid, firsthand accounts of frontier adventures, blending autobiography with ethnographic insight. Schultz's narratives capture the beauty and challenges of indigenous life before widespread settlement, preserving stories that might otherwise have been lost. He passed away in 1947, leaving a legacy as a bridge between worlds.
