Born in 1940 in Nashville, Tennessee, he co-founded the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) and became a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement, enduring arrests and threats for his unwavering commitment to nonviolent protest. As the first Black man elected to the Georgia House of Representatives, Bond faced initial refusal to seat him due to his anti-Vietnam War stance, a decision overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. Later serving in the Georgia Senate and as chairman of the NAACP, he authored influential works that chronicled the era's struggles.
