About the Author

Livy, the renowned Roman historian whose full name was Titus Livius, was born in 59 BCE in Patavium (modern Padua) and spent much of his life in Rome, where he witnessed the transformative era from the late Republic to the early Empire under Augustus. A master chronicler of antiquity, Livy dedicated his career to documenting the rise of Rome, drawing on earlier sources to weave a narrative that blends meticulous historical detail with moral and patriotic fervor. His monumental work, Ab Urbe Condita, spanning 142 books, survives only in fragments and select volumes, yet it profoundly influenced Western historiography and literature.
