Maria A. Trapp, born Maria Augusta Kutschera in 1905 in Vienna, Austria, led a life that blended adventure, music, and resilience, ultimately inspiring one of the most beloved musicals of all time. Orphaned at a young age, she entered a Benedictine abbey but left to tutor the children of Baron Georg von Trapp, a widowed naval officer. Their shared love for music blossomed into romance, leading to marriage and the formation of the renowned Trapp Family Singers, who toured internationally with their harmonious performances. Fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria in 1938, the family settled in Stowe, Vermont, where they established a lodge and continued their musical legacy. Maria's memoir, The Story of the Trapp Family Singers, offers an intimate glimpse into their extraordinary journey, capturing the joys and trials of a family united by song and faith.
