Matthäus Merian the Younger (1621–1687), a distinguished German engraver and artist of the Baroque era, carried forward the illustrious legacy of his father, Matthäus Merian the Elder, one of Europe's premier cartographers and publishers. Born in Basel and later active in Frankfurt, he honed his craft in the family workshop, producing intricate engravings that blended scientific precision with imaginative flair.
