About the Author
Mercedes Eng is a Canadian poet, writer, and educator whose work examines the intertwined forces of incarceration, colonialism, racial capitalism, and family history. With a sharp, urgent voice, she brings documentary impulse and lyrical intensity to questions of power, memory, and resistance. Her writing engages both personal experience and broader systems of violence, creating space for reflection, critique, and collective imagining. Eng’s work has contributed to contemporary conversations about justice, community, and the possibilities of poetry as a form of political and emotional inquiry.
