About the Author

Michelle Kuo is an acclaimed author and educator whose work bridges the worlds of literature and social justice. Born in Taiwan and raised in the United States, she pursued a career in teaching that profoundly shaped her writing. After graduating from Harvard College and earning a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, Kuo served as a Teach for America corps member in rural Arkansas, where she formed a transformative bond with her student Patrick. This experience inspired her debut memoir, Reading with Patrick: A Teacher, a Student, and a Life-Changing Friendship, which chronicles the power of books to foster resilience amid poverty and incarceration.
