About the Author
Sheng-Yen, a renowned Chan Buddhist master and scholar, was born in mainland China in 1930 and dedicated his life to the practice and dissemination of Ch'an Buddhism, the Chinese precursor to Zen. After fleeing to Taiwan amid political turmoil, he immersed himself in rigorous monastic training, eventually becoming the abbot of several temples and founding the Dharma Drum Mountain organization to promote Buddhist teachings worldwide. His writings bridge ancient wisdom with contemporary life, offering accessible insights into meditation, ethics, and spiritual growth. Through his teachings, Sheng-Yen emphasized the transformative power of mindfulness and compassion, guiding countless students toward inner peace. He passed away in 2009, leaving a profound legacy in modern Buddhism.
