Shida Bazyar

About the Author

Shida Bazyar is an acclaimed German-Iranian author whose evocative storytelling bridges the cultural divides between her Iranian heritage and her life in Germany. Born in Tehran and raised in a family of storytellers, she moved to Europe as a young woman, drawing from personal experiences of displacement and identity to craft narratives that resonate with universal themes of belonging, resilience, and quiet rebellion. Her debut novel, Nachts ist es leise in Teheran, nominated for the International Booker Prize 2026, masterfully explores the hushed tensions of life under authoritarianism through the eyes of ordinary women navigating love, loss, and defiance. Bazyar's prose, infused with poetic subtlety and unflinching honesty, has earned her a devoted following and critical praise for illuminating the immigrant experience with profound empathy and grace.
