Sverker Finnström

About the Author

Sverker Finnström is a Swedish anthropologist and scholar whose work delves into the intricate intersections of violence, memory, and daily life in post-conflict societies. With a focus on Northern Uganda, he explores how ordinary people navigate the legacies of war, blending ethnographic insight with historical analysis to illuminate the human cost of prolonged conflict. His research challenges conventional narratives of victimhood and resilience, offering nuanced portraits of communities enduring 'bad surroundings' amid political upheaval. Drawing from extensive fieldwork, Finnström's writing bridges academic rigor with empathetic storytelling, contributing significantly to anthropology, African studies, and peace research. A professor at Uppsala University, he continues to advocate for voices marginalized by global discourses on war and reconciliation.
