Dick Francis, the renowned British author born in 1920 in Tenby, Wales, began his writing career after a distinguished tenure as a steeplechase jockey, riding for Queen Elizabeth II and retiring in 1957 following a severe fall. Drawing from his intimate knowledge of the high-stakes world of horse racing, Francis crafted gripping thrillers that blend suspense, intricate plots, and authentic depictions of the turf's underbelly. His debut novel, Dead Cert (1962), launched a prolific career spanning over 50 books, many co-authored later with his son Felix.
