Ven. Ledi Sayadaw
About the Author
Ven. Ledi Sayadaw (1846-1923) was a revered Burmese Buddhist monk, scholar, and meditation master who revitalized the practice of Vipassana meditation in modern times. Born in the village of Ledi in Upper Burma, he ordained as a novice at age 14 and later became a prolific writer and teacher, authoring over 100 works on Buddhist philosophy, ethics, and meditation techniques. His teachings emphasized the accessibility of the Dhamma to laypeople, countering the decline of scriptural study during colonial rule. Through rigorous scholarship and practical instruction, Ledi Sayadaw inspired a widespread meditation movement that continues to influence global Buddhist practice today, earning him recognition as one of the most influential figures in Theravada Buddhism of the 20th century.
