About the Author
Victor Cherkashin is a former KGB officer whose decades-long career in Soviet intelligence spanned the height of the Cold War, where he played a pivotal role in recruiting some of the most notorious American spies, including Robert Hanssen and Aldrich Ames. After defecting to the United States in the early 1990s, Cherkashin transitioned from the shadows of espionage to the clarity of authorship, drawing on his firsthand experiences to illuminate the intricate world of counterintelligence. His memoir, Spy Handler: Memoir of a KGB Officer- The True Story of the Man Who Recruited Robert Hanssen and Aldrich Ames, offers a gripping, unvarnished account of the strategies, betrayals, and human elements that defined superpower rivalries. Now retired in Virginia, Cherkashin continues to consult on security matters and lecture on the enduring lessons of spycraft, reminding readers that the line between ally and adversary is often perilously thin.
